THE EARLY EDITION – (TV’S THE LATE EDITION - LIVE)
MARCUS BRIGSTOCKE, ANDRE VINCENT and STEVE FURST
PLEASANCE COURTYARD, CABARET BAR @ 11.50am (ENDS 12.50pm)
14-26 AUGUST 2006
For the first time in Edinburgh at the festival, this is your chance to see a LIVE version of a fantastically successful TV show. There’s not much that won’t come under their satirical knives with blisteringly funny results.
The Early Edition stars Steve Furst, from the award winning Little Britain, Andre Vincent, from the award winning Hurrah for Cancer, and Marcus Brigstocke, from just about every other TV show and arguably the voice of Radio 4. This show is unique from beginning to end, funny, intelligent and slightly edgy.
Topical material of the utmost quality will be performed every (late) morning with coffee and croissants. From 11.55 a.m. you will be served up to the minute biting satire and of course no two shows will be the same.
See a show that will make history at the Fringe. Fun and frolics of all kinds will be had. Watch the brilliant team burn their way through the days’ stories in a show that bridges all audiences and will leave them gasping at the wit.
If you can find a way to kill for a ticket to see an hour of sheer genius then do so.

NEED TO FIND A SHOW THAT WILL FILL A WHOLE HOUR OF YOUR LIFE?
Godliman&Lane* are proud to present their debut full-length Edinburgh Festival Fringe show. A humorous exposé of the terrifying myth of choice. Take a glance inside the cut-throat world of bullying adverts, passive aggressive healers, jargon wielding shampoo salesmen and attention seeking, biography peddling ‘Z’ list celebrities.
A SHOW THAT WILL ENRICH YOU, IMPROVE YOU, ENTERTAIN YOU, AND OFFER A LITTLE DISTRACTION FROM YOUR EXISTENTIAL DESPAIR?
Tests prove that hese days comedy can be hard work -
Recent research shows that over 87% of people, when leaving a comedy show, say or think words to the effect of “That was f***ing rubbish, let’s get pissed”.
That’s why, here at Godliman&Lane* our new, improved formula comedy show is guaranteed to be approximately an hour long and provide seating.
What’s more, Godliman&Lane* contain the extremely friendly Comedia Hilarius bacteria, proven to enrich, improve and entertain without causing drowsiness.
WELL SEEK NO FURTHER! GODLIMAN & LANE HAVE PUT TOGETHER A WHOLE EDINBURGH SHOW THAT WILL DO ALL, SOME, OR…PERHAPS, NONE OF THE ABOVE.
Kerry Godliman is a regular performer on the comedy circuit and has appeared in numerous TV shows, most recently in Channel 4’s comedy sketch show, Spoons. She also performed as part of the Big Value Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2005 and has toured the UK as part of the Dove Naked Truth Comedy Tour, representing the best of female stand-up alongside Julia Morris, Lucy Porter Zoe Lyons, Barbara Nice and Arabella Weir.
David Lane has long been recognised, if only by his mother, as one of the great British commercial voiceovers of his generation. He first shot to fame with his groundbreaking adaptation of Homer’s ‘The Illiad’ for Allied Carpets.Despite battling depression and an inability to say his ‘R’s properly David has voiced some of the all time great ad campaigns of the late twentieth century and still found time to write radio comedy ‘The Devlin Mystery’, a book for children entitled ‘Captain Clever’ and several jokes.

ROB HEENEY
I AM BETTER THAN MY DAD
“Deluded genius” Johnny Vegas
This is the long awaited debut show from the Isle of Man’s premier (possibly only) comedian.
“The island’s no.1 export (apart from kippers)”
Isle of Man Examiner
Over the last decade, Rob Heeney has established a reputation as one of the top comics working the UK circuit today. His style is a blend of bitterness, playfulness and cynicism wrapped up in a blanket of charm.
Originating from Douglas, Isle of Man, where he was born one Christmas Eve, you’d think this qualified chemical physicist, trained systems analyst, former taxi driver and international table tennis player would be able to draw on these amazing experiences……he cannot.
“The saviour of the show...our tip for the top”
Danny Wallace, BBC Comedy
Rob is a regular at The Comedy Store, Jongleurs, The Glee, Up the Creek, is part of the Paramount Comedy on Tap tour and also writes the Jamie Theakston Breakfast Show (nominated for a Sony Award)
“This eminently likeable Manxman will liven up any bill
… a definite must see.” Chortle
NB. Rob would like make it known that he is not better than his dad in any way, shape or form.

“VERY IMPRESSIVE … UNFAILINGLY GOOD PUNCHLINES … INTELLIGENT AND FUNNY … COMES WITH THE CHORTLE SEAL OF APPROVAL”
Chortle
Do you enjoy being offended by words, pictures or logic?
In his debut full-length Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, acclaimed stand-up and writer Nick Doody explores why people take such pleasure in taking offence and, along the way, tries to prove all world religions wrong. If someone saying something has ever made you write a letter to the editor or blow yourself up, why not come along and see if Nick says it as well?
You may win a prize! (There is no prize)
“DOODY'S PHYSICALITY REMINDED US HOW IMPORTANT THE VISUAL DIMENSION CAN BE. IT'S AN AREA THAT ALL TOO MANY STAND-UPS SEEM TO IGNORE”
Time Out
Religion - Christian Right or Christian Wrong?
The Bible - God’s instruction manual or just a badly translated story book?
War - Terrorist or Freedom fighter?
Cartoons – Something to amuse or a justification for murder?
If you are easily offended Nick Doody will take you to Heaven (or is it the other place?). You’ll be so incensed that your sweaty little fingers will be trembling too much for you to operate the detonator.
“SUPERB… YOU FOUND YOURSELF LAUGHING WHILST CONSCIOUSLY TRYING TO BITE YOUR LIP."
bbc.co.uk
Nick’s career as a stand-up comedian got off to a pretty good start when, whilst still a student, he supported the late Bill Hicks on his final tour of the UK at Bill’s request.
Sharp, topical and not afraid to say what he thinks his brand of political comedy and satire has won fans all over the country. He has become a regular performer on the UK’s comedy circuit and is highly sought-after as a writer including work on cult animation series Empire Square, Late Edition (BBC4), Faq U (CH4), ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats and Friday Night Project and Last Word (More4).

CARRIE QUINLAN – FEAR OF A BEIGE PLANET
GILDED BALLOON, BILLIARD ROOM @ 9pm (ENDS 10pm)
2-28 AUGUST 2006 (Previews 2-3 Not 16)
Runner up in both So You Think You’re Funny and the BBC New Comedy Awards Carrie Quinlan is back with a bang. After a hiatus from the comedy world, whilst studying drama at The Guildhall, Carrie has come firmly back to her comedy roots with this hilarious new show, marking her Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut.
Carrie despairs at the modern world turning beige. The world is getting blander and life is getting more boring, the Late Edition (BBC 4) and Now Show (Radio 4) writer grapples with making the world a better place, or at least making the telly less rubbish.
Carrie asks what’s gone wrong with Western culture? How did the traditions of Plato, Mozart and Shakespeare pass into the hands of Dan Brown, Piers Morgan and Natasha Kaplinsky? When did we stop striving for greatness? And who stole her bicycle clips? She might even answer one of them. In a funny way.
Before giving up stand up temporarily to study drama, Carrie had great success working with some of the best names in comedy including Catherine Tate, Marcus Brigstocke and Danny Robins. Carrie is also a talented actress and writer having recently appeared in Speaking Shakespeare at The Royal Court and also has made many appearances on The Late Edition. She also wrote for Stop the World and Hudson and Pepperdine.
Whilst up in Edinburgh, Carrie will also be appearing in the The Early Edition (a live version of The Late Edition with Marcus Brigstocke and Andre Vincent) and also The Late Edition for the BBC.
“Being hyped as a star of the future, but no hype is required” Scotsman
“A dry wit with a droll, easy style” The Guardian
“See her now before everyone tells you they saw her first” The Sunday Times

GLENN WOOL – YOU DON’T GO TO HELL FOR EATING ELEPHANTS
THE TRON, HUNTER SQUARE, ROYAL MILE @ 9pm (ENDS 10pm)
3-28 AUGUST 2006 (Previews 3, Not 16)
Glenn Wool is back and he is better than ever before. After a year off from the fringe last year, his return is hotly anticipated and this show is definitely not one to be missed. Glenn will be performing at The Tron pub on Hunter Square, arguably the best venue for comedy at the fringe.
You Won’t Go To Hell for Eating Elephants is a show, which with bold moves is sure to revolutionize comedy. Glenn will forgo the use of a laptop or a projector and allow the audience to make the images of what he's talking about INSIDE THIER OWN HEADS! It's a show about the location of hell. Is it spiritual, mental or physical? Does it have a capital, should it be capitalized, and does it involve capitalism? All these questions asked and more.
Glenn began his comedy career in his hometown of Vancouver in 1995. He moved to London in 1998 and quickly became one of the rising stars of the London and international comedy circuit having performed in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, France, Croatia and Arabia. Glenn was nominated for Best International Stand Up at The New Zealand Comedy Awards.
Glenn is a regular TV face having made appearances on The World Stands Up for Paramount The BBC Stand Up Show, The Live Floor Show, 28 Acts in 28 Minutes and The Comic side of Seven Days for the BBC. Last year Glenn wrote and starred in What's The Story?' broadcast on Channel 4 as part of the Comedy Lab.
Radio is familiar to Glenn too having recently been in Political Animal and 28 Acts in 28 Minutes for BBC Radio 4 as well as headlining 4 at the Store (R4) and The Late Night Comedy Show for Radio 1.
“Effortlessly funny with an affability that other comics can only dream of – You have to go and see Glenn Wool” The Guardian
“Tipped for Greatness” The Daily Telegraph
“Lethally funny” Metro
“He’s drop dead gorgeous. Bad news for other comics is that he is also very funny” The Scotsman
“Wincingly funny, its enough to buckle a bull moose” Melbourne Age

MATT KIRSHEN – HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOY?
PLEASANCE, ATTIC @ 9.30pm (ENDS 10.30pm)
2-28 AUGUST 2006 (Previews 2-5 Not 15)
Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Winner 2003, Comedy Store King of Kings 2003 and Paramount Comedy Channel Gift of the Gab runner up 2003, Matt Kirshen has quickly established himself on the London and national comedy circuit and is set to storm the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his first solo show. Catch him now and say you saw him first.
In his show Have You Seen This Boy? Matt uses his impish charms to lure his audience into a false sense of security, before unleashing a barrage of precision-sharp comedy alongside a healthy dose of faffing and wrongness. HYSTB? explains how he has garnered the dubious nickname "pocket sized dynamo" by The Evening Standard's Bruce Dessau. Matt hopes it is for his dynamic comedy stylings. And nothing else.
His engaging, refreshingly candid style is shot through with intelligence, skill and a steadily revealed darker side, which belies his boyish good lucks and naïve charm.
Have You Seen This Boy? Is directed by Paul Byrne. Paul is rapidly making a name for himself as the premier comedy director having in the last two years directed Andrew Maxwell’s award winning 2004 Edinburgh show as well as Glenn Wool, Brendon Burns and many others.
Matt has made numerous appearances at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe already at the renowned Late and Live, Spank and BBC Stand Up Show to name just a few. He has appeared in the line up of prestigious package shows Big Value and Hackney Empire's Cave Comedy, and in 2004, shone in the critically-acclaimed 5 star sketch show Stickmen: Year One.
This autumn Matt will open for Irish favourite Ed Byrne on his forthcoming 50 date tour of UK and Ireland and he was a featured support act on Marcus Brigstocke and Jeff Green's UK tours in 2005. Already matt is a regular face on television appearing on The Late Edition, and 28 Acts in 28 Minutes and has written for 8 out of 10 Cats.
Whilst in Edinburgh Matt is also in a play with comedian Carey Marx called Cutlery Wars and will also be a resident compere at James Campbell’s Comedy Club for Kids.
Matt's many international appearances include The Laughter Lounge, Dublin, both English-speaking and local audiences in Dubai, Oman, Singapore, The USA, France, Austria and Germany. He has performed to festival crowds at Glastonbury, Oxford Truck and The Carling Weekend in Reading and Leeds, and is a regular at all the major comedy clubs in London and across the UK, including The Comedy Store and Jongleurs.
“A roller coaster of comedy genius" The Scotsman
“His performance is the perfect mix of innocence and post-adolescent cynicism driven by infectious energy” Metro Life Magazine
"A pocket sized dynamo” Evening Standard
“Matt Kirshen is a definite one to watch, his innocent looks belying a sharp, surreal and often gloriously sick mind. Killer Gags” Metro

Topping & Butch – FILTH!
Award winning singing satirists return to Edinburgh
“Performing Perverts by Appointment to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Filth! promises Topping and Butch utterly unleashed. The boys have the golden touch with their audience. It is a joy to see these two talented, funny men behaving badly. And they do it so well.” The Scotsman 2005 (4*)
“No one in the packed room left disappointed, in fact some were in hysterics from the moment they stepped on stage.” Three Weeks 2005 (4*)
“Their lyrics are nothing short of genius. Topping and Butch are a must at the Fringe because they will wow you with their wit and have you singing naughty numbers for hours.” Fest 2005 (4*)
“Witty, acerbic, and above all bloody funny. Put simply, Topping and Butch are the UK's finest cabaret double act.” Scotsgay 2005 (5*)
“sharp none-more-topical political comedy and effortless musical talent.” The List 2005
“You couldn’t hope for anything better than their leather-clad camp to raise the spirits.” Chortle.co.uk 2006
"Clever, keenly observed, camp and very funny. They show how audience interaction ought to be conducted"
The Age, Melbourne 2006
After three years of taking the Fringe by storm (Official EdFringe Sell Out 2003 / 2004 / 2005), Topping & Butch are back with their rudest, filthiest, dirtiest, most obscene show to date – Filth!
Filth! which has a strict age limit of over 18s will be on at 9.55pm in The Underbelly from 3rd of August.
In 2005, Topping & Butch did a limited run of four very late night shows of Filth! for a select audience; children and journalists were banned from the show. However, an intrepid hack from The Scotsman found her way into the show and reported that “This show is Topping and Butch at their best. It is a joy to see these two talented, funny men behaving badly. And they do it so well”
Known for their quick-fire wit and mischievous charm, Filth! will see the boys up the ante with more improvisation and off-the-cuff banter with their audience. This is a no holds barred show with nothing off the agenda.
Since their sell-out shows in Edinburgh 2003, 2004 and 2005, the duo have become regular guests on Radio 4’s Loose Ends, contributors to Channel 5’s compilation shows and have toured the UK festivals, cabaret and comedy clubs. Topping & Butch have had a whirlwind of a year in 2006 having performed on The Rio Carnival Cruise to Brazil, wowed the crowds at Melbourne Comedy Festival, and taken in Sydney and Brisbane, hosted The Biggest Eurovision Song Contest Party in Brighton and performed at Prague Fringe Festival.
They are loved by gay and mainstream audiences alike, and have played to celebrities as diverse as Janet Street-Porter, Patrick Stewart, Minnie Driver, The Pet Shop Boys, Suggs and Cynthia Payne.
Topping & Butch are also performing a limited run of their show "Topping & Butch and Friends" at The Udderbelly on 14th and 21st August at 8.15pm. Some of the friends that will be joining them on stage will include a selection of the finest comedy talent on the Edinburgh scene. Expect satirical songs covering the most up to date news on current events, celebrities and politicians.

JIM JEFFRIES
THE SECOND COMING
HELL WANTS HIM, HEAVEN WON’T TAKE HIM, EDINBURGH GOT HIM
Triumphantly returning to Edinburgh after 2004’s complete (and extra shows) sell-out show ‘Porn Idol’, the internationally acclaimed storyteller presents his most morally bankrupt show to date.
“ A man untouched by political correctness” The Scotsman
Regarded as one of the fastest rising stars in the comedy world, Jim’s brash confrontational style has made him one of the most sought after comics on the world stage. He gets away with jokes that most comedians would not to touch due to his ability to both charm and offend the crowd through equal measures.
“Like all the greats, he is able to turn filth into an art form” Montreal Gazette
As seen on ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’, ‘The World Stands Up’ for Paramount, and star of ‘The History of Offensive Humour’ Channel 4, Australian born Jim Jeffries has now become a headline comic on all five continents, especially after wowing audiences in the 2005 “Just For Laughs’ Festival in Montreal, where his ‘Nasty Show’, garnered one of the biggest press articles of the festival.

CAREY MARX
WHITE NIGHT
After the hugely successful ‘Marry Me’ and ‘Albino Hunter’,
Carey Marx returns to Edinburgh in an explosion of colour
LEARN how to have fun with pasta, SEE the robot-dancing elderly people, DISCOVER the correct way to sh*t yourself to death.
Plus, magic, music and many extraordinary things.
“Excellent” The Guardian
White is the colour of wedding dresses, white flags and other white things. It is considered to represent peace and innocence. “Bullshit” says Carey (whilst arousing a sense of dirty-brown). White consists of all colours. Sure it sometimes peaceful, but it is also frequently angry, and even spasmodically grumpy. If you think you know white, you are in for a big blue shock.
“Hilariously Demented” Edinburgh Evening News
‘White Heat’ is a head-rush hotchpotch of exhilarating moments bathed in hues of spicy-green, suggestive-orange, vulgar-yellow, wicked-brown, quintessentially-inane-red and mirthful-pink as the colour of the joke mutates.
This show is preposterous and represents the kind of thoughts you might have when mad people whisper to you at night.
WHITE HEAT is not for the emotionally colour-blind.

Are you a FULL MOONER?
Currently the UK's most talked about late night comedy show, hosted by the award-winning comic Andrew Maxwell. It transfers from its roots in London’s premiere comedy venue The Comedy Store to this year’s Edinburgh Festival for just 13 nights.
Full Mooners in London has seen Simon Pegg make a return to stand up after 9 years off the circuit and Paul Merton’s for 6 years plus a host of top comics including Dara O ‘Briain, Paul Merton, Noel Fielding and Jimmy Carr to name but a few, as well as regular breakdancers and go go girls. A highlight of the run so far has been Jade Goody being thrown out of the show!
The show always has a very special guest, be it a TV star or an old school comic and uniquely, persuaded by Andrew, a headline comic would be also doing something they haven’t done in public before.
This is the second of Andrew’s shows at this year’s Festival. He also brings a new solo show ‘’Round Twilight’ to the Pleasance Cabaret Bar at The Courtyard at 8.10pm. This follows a sell-out run of ‘Grand Royale’ at last year’s Festival with extra shows at The Grand with subsequent sell-out run at The Soho Theatre in London and some of the craziest nights to date at The Comedy Store in London.
“Andrew Maxwell’s Full Mooners takes me back to the early days of the Store, when it was in Dean Street, there was this anarchic and rebellious feel from both artists and audiences. The show has a kind of interaction that rarely happens these days and an outrageousness that I and everyone enjoyed and which got everybody’s bowels moving! It was like going back to the era of Alexi Sayle and Keith Allen whose comedy and observations were edgy and nasty but actually reflected everyday life”
